Beyond The Trophy: Meet Lehigh Chapter leader and defensive back LaTreil Wimberly
Each week during the college football season we will feature a player who is an officer for an Uplifting Athletes Chapter for our Beyond the Trophy series.
Get To Know LaTreil Wimberly from Lehigh University: A two-time All Patriot League second team selection and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member has been a starter at defensive back since the late stages of his freshman year in 2021. LaTreil has started more than 20 games for the Mountain Hawks, posted more than 70-plus tackles and owns a pair of interceptions. He started serving the rare disease community as a Lehigh Chapter leader in 2021, attended the 2022 Leadership Development Conference and Young Investigator Draft celebration and played an instrumental role in the Lehigh football program continuing to inspire hope in people impacted by rare diseases by holding a Lift For Life this past summer.
What is your most memorable experience as a college athlete?
WIMBERLY: Connecting with people from different and similar backgrounds.
What drove you to get involved with Uplifting Athletes?
WIMBERLY: A teammate from the Lehigh Chapter reached out and let me know what it was about and I believed I could help and make a difference.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know?
WIMBERLY: I have had two shoulder surgeries.
What is the one piece of advice you would give a high school player with aspirations to play college sports?
WIMBERLY: Always have confidence.
If you could play another sport, what would it be and why?
WIMBERLY: Basketball, because it is fun to shoot the ball while on the other end you can lock someone up.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
WIMBERLY: Patrick Peterson. He shows exceptional skills on the field, and shows great leadership off the field while giving back to the community.
